Lindy McLeod - The Market Basket Company

Ten years ago, Lindy McLeod was living abroad and, while visiting France, admired the women of Paris rushing home in the evenings and on weekends with their fresh produce … fruit, breads, meats and cheeses … brimming in their seriously chic shopping baskets. She bought some for herself which rapidly became an indispensable part of her life.
After returning to Australia and realising the statistics of plastic shopping bag usage in Australia, Lindy began investigating the possibility of bringing a “French Style” shopping basket to Australia.
She is now able to share the market basket shopping experience with Australians. A simple, stylish, multi-functional shopping basket, hand-made in Morocco and a household item in France, is now available in Australia.
Naturally, it works best filled with the best Australian fresh produce! It is also extremely versatile and is a fabulous companion for transporting gourmet goodies on picnics, a great bag for the beach and a perfect present - either on its own or filled with great food and wine. You can even take it away for the weekend - it’s much easier to pack than a suitcase!

I've been felting for about 4 years - self taught originally and have attended workshops since to learn more techniques. I love it - it's tactile - a bit like painting with wool, silk and animal fibres.  Not a thing like the felt that we used at school for craft projects.

I make scarves, handbags, purses & accessories, cushions, craft.  My scarves are "nuno" felted -merino and silk felted to silk chiffon.

Local craftsman John Knight uses his expert woodturning skills to bring out the intrinsic beauty of Australian hardwoods. His interest in timber began at a young age during his high school years in Perth.  He was encouraged to spend his spare time nurturing his skills in the well-equipped timber workshop.

It is a firm belief of John’s that a piece of timber will tell him “the way it wants to be cut, sometimes leading to disaster, but more often a unique piece that cannot be planned”.  He focuses on working around the knots & the grain of the timber to find its own natural beauty.
John has undertaken many commissions, often having customers arrive with a piece of tree that has fallen in a storm, wanting him to transform it & he clearly states "it will be the wood that dictates the final shape”.

Red Cherry Lane

Red Cherry Lane was inspired by my admiration for fabulous fabric designers like Patty Young, Sandi Henderson, Erin McMorris and Jenean Morrison.

I have always been the creative, crafty one in my family and from a young age was taught to sew by my grandmother on her prehistoric Husqvarna sewing machine. At the age of 13 I really got stuck into sewing clothes for my sister, mum and myself, and spent many nights as a teenage glued to my sewing machine until the early hours of the morning. 

For about 5 years my sewing machine suffered ‘lack of attention syndrome’ while I focused on full time employment, house renovations and the arrival of my three children. During this time I tried my hand at many other crafts like ceramic painting, mosaics, home furnishings and cross stitch. Children, particularly little girls, provided me with new enthusiasm and a great excuse to start creating and making things for the many little girls in my life.

In 2010 I decided to really let loose and try my hand at selling some of my many creations, so I launched the label Red Cherry Lane. Red Cherry Lane is my creative outlet and has given me the excuse to convert one of our bedrooms into the officially named Sewing Room. I hope you like my little bits and pieces as much as I enjoy making them.
